Legion

From this module onwards you will require a Legion account. See the module Setup for details.

Legion is our general-use cluster. It contains nodes of different types, some specialist hardware, and nodes belonging to research groups. You can run serial or parallel jobs on it, and the combinations of resources you may request depend on the node type.

It runs a software stack based upon Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and Son of Grid Engine. The environment provided should be familiar to users of UNIX-like operating systems.

More information about the Research Computing Platforms can be viewed on the Research Computing Platforms Support web pages.

Legion nodes

Legion has a number of node types, these are:

Most of the Legion nodes are CPU, however there are two types of GPU node. More details can be viewed in the Legion technical specs.

Login Nodes

These are the nodes you will predominantly access when using Legion and are used for:

Accessible via ssh, at legion.rc.ucl.ac.uk,or login0(6-9).external.legion.ucl.ac.uk.

Transfer Nodes

These nodes can transfer data around Legion up to 10⨉ faster than normal login nodes, and should be used for all non-trivial file transfers. At login05.external.legion.ucl.ac.uk.

Compute Nodes

These are the nodes do the work and are only accessible via the scheduler.

They are:
